Baldivis District Sporting Complex

Project Justification

The City of Rockingham is experiencing rapid growth and has the fastest population growth in the south metropolitan region of between four and five per cent. In the next decade, the population will expand by a further 40,000 residents to 179,000. With further growth forecast for the area, it essential the area has the infrastructure to be able to deliver sport and recreation facilities to the local community.

Baldivis has a larger percentage of young families and children than the rest of the metropolitan area, and demand for sustainable sporting and recreation opportunities is essential for the health and social development of those living within Baldivis and surrounding areas of Rockingham.

There are currently no district level facilities in the City of Rockingham. The existing local facilities do not provide enough public open space for the expanding population.

The facility will be located on almost 20 hectares and developed in three stages. It will allow for the growth of at least 20 new sporting clubs over the mix of indoor and outdoor facilities to service the communities of Baldivis (north and south), Warnbro, Port Kennedy and Golden Bay and Singleton. As the facility will also cater for district level sports the facility will provide opportunities for the Rockingham population in general and attract participants from throughout the metropolitan and Peel region.
